Keynote speakers

Sarah Kirchberger

Sarah Kirchberger, PhD, is the head of the new Center for Asia-Pacific Strategy and Security at the Institute for Security Policy at Kiel University (ISPK). She is the author of Assessing China's Naval Power: Technological Innovation, Economic Constraints, and Strategic Implications (Springer 2015) and of a German-language monograph on informal institutions in Chinese and Taiwanese politics. After graduating with an M.A. and a PhD degree in Sinology from the University of Hamburg, she served as a naval analyst with shipbuilder Blohm + Voss for three years before joining the faculty of the University of Hamburg’s Asia-Africa-Institute as an assistant professor of Contemporary China Studies. Her research interests include China's military modernization, China’s foreign and security policy, China's and Taiwan's political systems, and the history and inner development of the CCP.


Li Xing

Li Xing, PhD., is Professor and Director of the Research Centre on Development and International Relations, Department of Culture and Global Studies, Aalborg University, Denmark. He is also the Editor in Chief of the Journal of China and International Studies (ISSN: 2245-8921).

Li Xing’s research interests include development studies, international relations, international political economy, emerging powers and world order. Apart from publishing numerous journal articles, Professor Li Xing has been in recent years engaged in writing and editing a series of anthologies around the theme of the rise of China and the world order, such as The Rise of China and the Capitalist World Order (Ashgate, 2010); The Rise of China and the Semi-periphery and Periphery Countries (Aalborg University Press, 2012); China-Africa Relations in an Era of Great Transformations (Ashgate, 2013); The Rise of the BRICS and Beyond: The Political Economy of the Emergence of a New World Order? (Ashgate, 2014); Emerging Powers, Emerging Markets, Emerging Societies: Global Responses (Palgrave MaCmillan, 2016).
