TECHNO-ANTHROPOLOGY RESEARCH GROUP (TANT)

The Techno-Anthropology (TANT) group researches key processes of social and technical innovation that are critical to the challenges facing contemporary and future societies.

Complicated societal issues are unlikely to be solved by technical fixes. We therefore believe that workable solutions and the responsible development of technology must build on the active consideration of social relations, the engagement of users, and an in-depth understanding of the complexities of technology-in-use.

The research group investigates questions such as:

  • How can users become active participants in technological innovation and design?
  • How can we come to terms with the risks, knowledge controversies and ethical dilemmas that arise with new technologies?
  • How do technologies transform people’s experiences, activities and performances?

The members of the group are all active researchers and teachers on the Techno-Anthropology Teaching Programme. On this page, you can find more information about our research profile, our publications and our current activities.
